Most new pool owners have no idea what “backwashing” is and will have no idea what a backwash hose is either, so this mini plumbing lesson will show you and explain to you where and what the backwash hose is.
The backwash hose connects to the backwash valve on the swimming pool filter and then will get rolled out every time you need to backwash your pool filter.
Can I hard pipe my bashwash line?
Yes, Yes you can and in fact many inground pools will have the backwash line under the ground
Whats in the picture there?
The picture above shows a flexible backwash line that is connected to an above ground pool filter and these are the type of backwash hoses that can be rolled out when needed.
How Often do I need to replace my backwash hose?
The answer to that depends , if you have an above ground pool and use a common flexible hose they usually only last a few years , if you are using an underground line that is plumbed in with hard pipe , then as long as the pool is closed properly during the winter the backwash like should last the life of your pool.
Can I still backwash without the backwash hose?
Yes you can, just be aware that the DE or the debris could wind up all over the filter area, its best just to go out and buy a new backwash line.
