Ridgid Copper Tubing Cutters

If you don’t know that Ridgid is the top of the line when it comes to plumbing tools, then where have you been? Anyhow, This is a short review of the Ridgid no.15 and the no. 20 pipe cutter that is used for cutting copper pipe.

First lets show you what the pipe cutter, or as Ridgid likes to call it a “tubing cutter”, and in fact it does and is mostly used for cutting tubing so Ridgid is 100% right when they call it that.

Whats the average life of a Ridgid Tubing Cutter?

Well, not sure what others will have to say but for me , I used to get at least 4 - 6 years from one pipe cutter, although you will need to do preventive maintenance on the cutter of course.

What do you mean by Tubing Cutter Preventive Maintenance?

The actual cutter itself will never break or at least I have never seen one break, But things like the tubing cutter wheel, wheel pins and so on will have to be replaced from time to time, Oiling your cutters everyday is also a VERY good idea!

Come On man! - You saying Ridgid Tubing Cutters are the ONLY one for the Plumbing Professional?

Oh yes!, Yes I am, I have been in this industry for a long time and have tried many cheap and garbage pipe cutters, tubing cutters and so on, Nothing and I mean NOTHING!, lasts or works like a Ridgid!

Ok fine !, Tell me an example of what makes Ridgid the BEST!

Sure, Here is one excellent example of why the “cheap” tubing cutters suck,

Do you know what cutter run is ? I do, and if you don’t you have not been plumbing long enough or simply have been using Ridgid.

“Cutter run” is when you start to spin the tubing cutter around the pipe and it never makes just one grove and in fact it makes many groves and that leads into a bad or not so clean cut of the copper.

Just that alone makes all the difference on the job.

How much more is a Ridgid Cutter, then a cheap tubing cutter?

In fact there is not that much of a difference at all in price, I would say that a Ridgid tubing cutter is about 30% more money then the cheap one, and in the long run you will save a bunch!
