In the plumbing trade there are many many combinations of plumbing fittings and the ends of the fitting will make a difference, This short lesson will explain to you what a slip by slip plumbing fitting is ( slip x slip ).

A slip by slip means that each end of the fitting will “accept” pipe into it, or each end would be considered to be a “female end”. So each end of the fitting will let the pipe slip into it and that’s how it got its name.

So if you where to have a “slip x slip elbow” that would mean that each end of the elbow will be able to accept the pipe into it,.

Slip by slip is used in copper fitting and also pvc fittings.
